Embassy Tech Village is a tech park in Bengaluru. This tech park hosts companies such as J.P Morgan, Sony, Cisco, Xiaomi. SMD designed and built 1500 square SqFt. of food court. The design outcome was very different from the initial proposal, however worth sharing. Lunch breaks are often taken standing - firstly because people working at the tech park are mostly always seated during work hours, and secondly due to the general way of consuming quick meals. For this reason and other cost and space-related considerations, a standing-only food - court was proposed. The design was to be striking, as the site was 1500 sq ft of about 30 ft tall ceilings and needed to be a statement piece in terms of inviting users into it. Yellow metal stacks were proposed from floor to ceiling that would have a trail of table-tops mounted at a height comfortable to stand and eat at. One Motif across all the available space in disproportionate scale and a single loud colour. The final design, however, is a much simpler version of this due to operational reasons. It does however enable multiple stalls to be set up and operations to happen in a more practical way. Graphic design and implementation as part of the interior design played a very important role in imparting a playful and user-friendly look to the space.
